Wednesday, July 26th - Thursday, July 27th Wednesday, July 26th at 8:30 am, eight adventurous hikers set out for the Sequoia National Park. We arrived at the park later that afternoon and made our first stop to see/photograph the "largest living thing on earth," the General Sherman Tree. Afterwards we took short hike on the Congress Trail, and checked into the Wuksachi Lodge. Thursday, July 27th, we met early for a quick breakfast and headed out to Crescent Meadow to start our ascent to the Bearpaw Camp. On the way to Crescent Meadow we stopped to at the Auto Log where Will carefully placed his Explorer for a few pictures. We then took a quick hike to the top of Moro Rock as a little warm up for our 11.4 mile hike to come. We left Crescent Meadow on the High Sierra Trail at about 10 am. Twice we stopped to pump water, first at Mehrten Creek, the midway point, and again at Buck Creek, just one mile outside of Bearpaw Camp. At about 4:30 in the afternoon we arrived at camp to hot showers, fresh lemonade, and brownies. The eight of us occupied four of the six tents, numbers 3 thru 6, at the Bearpaw Camp. After showers and tent assignments we were all looking forward to dinner. At 5:30 pm the gong rang and the eight of us joined two other couples for dinner at the dinning table. Grilled chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a sweet desert filled out bellies. That evening everyone joined around Ben and Ed's large bonfire, sipping hot coco and talking. |
