Friday, July 28th Friday, July 28th, was our Craftsman t-shirt day. Most of us had a Craftsman shirt on every day, but Friday we all had them on. After a large breakfast all eight of us started down the trail past Bearpaw Meadow into the Great Western Divide. Four of us, Amy, Ed, Will, and Gary, continued on past the creek to Redwood Meadow. The other four, Ben, Robin, Laurie, and Kati, stayed at the creek to attempt some casual fishing. Both groups were able to stay in touch most of the afternoon because Ben and Robin had brought a couple two-way radios. They had a two mile radius and worked amazingly well in the mountains. As Amy, Ed, Will, and Gary continued on
another couple miles, Ben, Robin, and Kati prepared three poles for fishing.
Laurie hiked down the stream and scouted out a deep pool of water,
our best chance for fish. Within
a couple minutes at of having her hook in the water Kati had a bite.
It turned out to be a rainbow trout, only 4 to 5 inches long.
Kati attempted to remove the hook, but the fish had swallowed it
entirely. She cut the line and
threw it back. Meanwhile, at
Amy, Ed, Will, and Gary arrived at Redwood Meadow. They sat and had lunch on the porch of an empty ranger
station. The station looked as
though it had been uninhabited for some time, but there were claw marks from
bears running down the sides of the station's walls, as though some other
visitors had been looking to get in. The
two groups reconvened that afternoon at Camp.
We all enjoyed another starlit night around the campfire, thanks once
again to Ben |
